Catharine M. Pearson Sampler
A simple marking sampler with three alphabets, verse, and blue border.
Catharine M. Pearson remains a mystery. It is possible she is Catharine Montgomery Pearson, born in 1819 to Moody and Ann Pearson in Newton, MA. She attended the Bradford Academy for Young Ladies (founded in 1803 and eventually turned into Bradford College until it closed in 2000) until 1835.
In 1840 she married Samuel J. Brockway (1813-1858) and had at least two children. She passed away in 1905 at age 86 from heart disease.
“Remember thy Creator God, for him thy powers employ
Make him thy fear thy love, thy hope, thy confidence and joy”
Catherine M. Pearson wrought this sampler in the year 1829 aged 10
