Mary Hutchinson was born to unknown parents around 1813. In 1836 she married Abraham D. Lukens in Trenton, NJ. The couple had two children, Joseph (1842-1899) and Louisa (dates unknown). Abraham must have died before 1850, because by that time Mary and her children were living with the family of Anna Hellings (possibly Mary’s sister) in Burlington, NJ.
In 1870, Mary and her son Joseph were living with Samuel S. Williams and his children. Samuel is assumed to be Mary’s brother-in-law, as he was married to Sarah Hutchinson (her sampler can be found here).
Mary’s date of death is unknown. Her son, Joseph Hutchinson Lukens, married Sarah Elizabeth Hollenback (1847-?) in 1873. Her nephew, Mr. Neafie Adams, donated both samplers to the Old Barracks Association.
