As a touchstone for colonial and revolutionary history in New Jersey, the Old Barracks Museum brings the world of colonial America to life through interpretive programs, exhibits, and preservation so that visitors can appreciate New Jersey’s history, the diverse people who made it, and why it matters.

The Old Barracks Museum is committed to Diversity Equity Accessibility Inclusion and is dedicated to ensuring these principles are carried out in all aspects of its mission. The OBM respects and celebrates the attributes that make each person unique. Conveying these diverse stories strengthens its mission and creates a more equitable experience for everyone. The museum is dedicated to seeking inclusive participation that advances the organization’s mission and furthers the understanding of these principles for the Board, staff, volunteers, and all key stakeholders to provide more equitable education and programming.

We support Revolution NJ’s statement on the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States: “The commemoration of the 250th is an opportunity to bring together people from all walks of life to explore America’s Revolutionary history and New Jersey’s important role in it. Our working groups, consisting of volunteers that reflect the diverse professions, expertise, and people of the state, will create programs and initiatives that help people engage with the Revolutionary era in all its complexity and show how the diverse people, events, places, and ideas of that time are still relevant today. Our goal is to commemorate the 250th in a way that resonates with the tapestry that makes up New Jersey – and our nation.”
